Aim

We need to practice hearing from God.

Discussion Questions

Does anyone have any "whisper stories?" Are you hearing from God and having the guts to respond?

Whenever we implement any new practice, it feels strange at first. Can you think of a time when you changed things and it felt strange - - whether it was a new golf swing or changing vehicles?

What would it feel strange for you to do regarding practicing the presence of God? Pray aloud? Journal? Sing? Do you need to make that change?

Bill told the story of a an advertising executive who made time to sit in a rocking chair, read God's Word, and eventually joined the Willow team. Do you have a place in your world where you can sit in a rocking chair? Tell each others about the place where you sit.

If (or when) you receive a doctor's report that your life may end quickly, do you have a place where you can go to pray through "bad news." What will that look like for you?

Do you have any stories about times when God, through a friend, convicted you about a place where you have some sinful habits?

Follow-Up

Schedule at least two formal meetings with God before your next forum. Find a quiet place where you can pray and read God's Word.

Take time to read God's Word, pray, and listen.

If you are looking for a section of Scripture to read, then consider Psalm 34. In this Psalm David encourages others to "taste and see that the LORD is good." By having a formal meeting with God, you are answering David's challenge.

As you read Psalm 34, you might try and picture the Psalm. Envision what it means that the "angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear God." Take time to meditate, reflect, and pray about God's Word.
